Ashtanga~ The 8 Limbed Path

Most people in the West think that yoga is just a movement practice, but yoga encompasses much more than that. The 8 Limbed Path, also known as Ashtanga Yoga, a proven yogic science that represents a comprehensive approach to spiritual growth. This path, referred to as Raja Yoga or the royal way of God-union, serves as a science for the actualization of the Kingdom of God that lies within.

🌸 What Is Yoga and the Purpose of Yoga Practice?

Yoga is an ancient practice that unites the body, mind, and spirit through movement, breath, and meditation.
Rooted in Indian philosophy, it extends far beyond physical exercise—it’s a holistic system designed to cultivate inner peace, self-awareness, and spiritual growth.
The word “yoga” itself means union, symbolizing the connection between the individual and the universal, the self and the Divine.

The purpose of yoga is to help you find balance and harmony in your life.
Through physical postures (asanas), conscious breathwork (pranayama), and meditation, yoga encourages you to release stress, strengthen your body, clear your mind, and deepen your connection to your inner wisdom.
Each practice becomes a moving prayer—an invitation to return home to yourself and the sacred presence within.

Yoga offers timeless tools to release tension, improve flexibility, and bring clarity of mind while awakening a deep sense of calm and serenity.
Ultimately, yoga is a journey of self-discovery—a remembrance of who you truly are and of the Divine energy that flows within and around you.

By following the principles of the Eight-Limbed Path, yoga becomes more than a practice; it’s a way of living.
Whether your intention is to strengthen your body, reduce stress, or deepen your spiritual connection, yoga offers a path toward a more balanced, vibrant, and fulfilled life.

The 8 Steps to Liberation

🌿 The Eight-Limbed Path of Yoga

The Eight-Limbed Path begins with Yama, the moral foundation of yoga.
It invites us into non-violence (ahimsa), truthfulness, non-stealing, right use of energy, and freedom from greed or hoarding. These principles shape how we walk through the world — with compassion, honesty, and integrity.

Next is Niyama, the practice of inner refinement.
It calls us toward purity of body and mind, contentment in all circumstances, self-discipline, self-study, and devotion to God. Through these observances, the heart softens and the mind becomes clear.

Asana is the discipline of the body — the physical practice that steadies us for meditation. By finding stillness within movement, we cultivate endurance and grace.
Pranayama deepens that stillness through breath — regulating the life force that connects body, heart, and spirit.
Pratyahara invites withdrawal from sensory distractions, turning our awareness inward.

From there, Dharana arises — the capacity to focus the mind on the Divine. Concentration blooms into Dhyana, a deep, devotional meditation where we commune with the vastness of God’s presence.
Ultimately, Samadhi is the culmination — the full realization of the soul’s oneness with Spirit, where all separation dissolves into peace.
